One of the most important aspects of finding oneself is identifying with another group of people. As mentioned in my previous post, there are so many stereotypical cliques of people with similar interests that tend to gravitate toward each other. We all go through high school knowing groups of people like this. Maybe you yourself were in a group like this.
However, always sticking with one group of people doesn't allow you to learn more about yourself. The way to truly learn more about your own interests and to become a better-educated person is to branch out and hang out with diverse groups of people.
What is inspiring this post, you ask?
Well, today I came to the realization that I typically only hang out with the same types of people. Lately, though, I've been working on several group projects in various classes and associating with a bunch of new people. I realized that I have a lot more in common with these people than I could have ever imagined. I also am breaking out of my comfort zone a little by interacting with so many different types of people. Prime example-- our blog group :)
P.S.- I'm so excited for tomorrow night, guys!
Haha yeah I definately agree.. I pretty much only hang out with my friends from my dorm but I have been having so much fun with you guys! Tonight is going to be soooo much fun =]
RăspundețiȘtergereI can't wait for tonight! I usually only hang out with the girls from my floor and I'm so excited to branch out...we so excited :)
RăspundețiȘtergereIts true! In high school, I was usually categorized as a jock, but also sometimes got nerd. I had never really thought of myself as one of the brains (because my two bff were top 10 and I so wasn't) until someone I knew said that my friend and I would make the perfect nerd couple...and I was kinda like thanks? At college I do seem to hang out with the people from my dorm mainly and they are so different from people from my home town.
RăspundețiȘtergereIt is very easy to fall into the same group of friends because it is comfortable. Still, I like branching out sometimes because I get to see different perspectives and hear about different experiences.
RăspundețiȘtergereI remember when I saw you guys at the HUB last friday and thought that was so cool that you guys were all out together! Kaylee, I totally understand what you mean. This past Thanksgiving break I went on a service trip with a bunch of random PSU students and I had so much fun branching out and making friends with a whole new group of people! It's awesome that you're doing the same.
